HLA genes lie
within the human major histocompatibility complex .
These genes are on chromosome 6
and their prescence is associated with certain diseases.

The HLA complex - İACR
Please note normal healthy people may posess the genes
without getting the disease concerned.
However an interaction between the gene and certain environmental agents may
precipitate the disease.

The test in isolation is
therefore NOT of diagnostic help and the significance of the test
depends on the context of the disease you suffer from or are suspected
of having.
For example certain DR4 gene subtypes are associated with a more severe
RA.
However - as I say often - the real issue is the Clinical status and not
the blood test.....The test is NOT diagnostic of ANY disease.
Therefore your Rheumatologist will interpret the results in the context
of your clinical presentation.
