Internet
Arthritis education involvement
Established one of the largest arthritis websites in the world on the Internet.
URL: http://www.arthritis.co.za
This is an extension of my involvement as a consultant on the arthritis Internet
newsgroups. Articles on the website have appeared in several magazines in South Africa.
The website was referred to in Arthritis Today magazine in 1998 through the
correspondence column. It was voted the top website in South Africa for several months in 1998, and was
awarded the top physician website in South Africa
for by the Mail and Guardian newspaper a national newspaper in South Africa.
The website has been awarded numerous web based technological and content
awards.
It gets approximately 50 000 visitors per month, and is perhaps the most
commonly recommended website for patients on the internet newsgroups. It is used
by many other websites for arthritis information, and is listed on most search
engines, internationally.
The
design and
content of the website is 100 percent original and has been established and
maintained by myself. The website is unique worldwide, in that it is aimed at
reaching patients at patient level, and encourages patient education.
The
website is now utilised with permission, by Rheumatology teaching programs at University of Toronto Dept Rheumatology, and
Undergraduate teaching Dept Physical Medicine and Pain UCLA. It is also
recommended reading for the undergraduate teaching program University of Cape Town Dept
Rheumatology.
